Some coins have pointy/rough edges, this type of coin is polished round the edges to be added to the Tier 2 coins (the UNCURRENT type) so they don't get stuck when put through coin counting machines. If they don't get polished they belong to Tier 3 (Mutilated type) which takes much longer to redeem.
Some of the coins are whole and round but bent. This type of coin is pressed to make them flat so that they belong to the Tier 2 (Uncurrent type) instead of Tier 3 (Mutilated type) for the same reason that Mutilated coins take much longer to redeem.
Tier 1 quality coins are round, flat and clear-surfaced. This type of coin is circulation condition.
